Designs of the Decade

1970's

The Colt-Pielstick PC2 series diesel and dual fuel engine is introduced for industrial power and marine applications.
  • The PC2 was initially rated at 465 H.P. per cylinder at 520 rpm. The design was improved to 500 and then to 535 H.P. per cylinder.
  • The PC2.5 was introduced at 650 H.P. per cylinder at 520 rpm.
  • The PC2.6 was introduced at 737 H.P. per cylinder at 520 rpm.

A 9 second emergency start witnessed by engineers and officials of the nuclear power industry.

The PC2 is the world's most widely used high horsepower medium speed diesel engine. A total of 30 U.S. built engines were installed in ships in the 1970's. The 672' long Falcon Lady - first 2 Colt-Pielstick PC2 main propulsion engines installed - Fall 1970.
